"I knew I had to get out of that country- and fast!
The FA and FIFA managed to keep this story out of the papers and the public arena for over 30 years - and I am grateful for that"
Ex-International, League and Non-league Player (Republic of Ireland, Everton, Blackpool, Wigan, Chester City, Port Vale, Plymouth, Mossley, Hyde United, Bangor City, Stalybridge Celtic, Cork City... and Al Hilal, Saudi Arabia.)
What would you do if a mega-rich and powerful Saudi Arabian Prince tells you he is in love with you and you can have anything you want?
If you are a woman and a foreign Prince declares his love for you in this way, you would probably be right in thinking you have just hit the jackpot.
But... If you are a 22 year old, married-with-children, heterosexual male... you are under contract as a professional footballer with a top team in Saudi... the Prince who has just declared his love you is the President of the Club you work for... and the punishment for practising homosexuality in Saudi Arabia is death (usually by beheading) you have had a total nightmare.
You can't tell anybody, because who will believe you? And if they do believe you, will they speak up and defend you, knowing how powerful and influential the Prince is? If anybody spoke out against the Prince, they were likely to end up in as much trouble as you!
His word against mine?
Only one winner there I think...
"Many of today’s footballers live their lives like Hollywood film stars. The story of Eamonn O'Keefe's life could be the script of a Hollywood film but there would be only one problem… nobody would believe it was a true story! I can assure you it is. You couldn't make it up if you tried!"
Ex-England Manager and the current Chairman of the League Managers Association.
